The CYPRUS TAG has first met in May 2008 ans has had several working meetings since then. So far, teachers from four different schools are participating (Deryneia, Limassol and Nicosia), a member of the Pedagogical Institute as well as the Global Education representative of the Ministry of Education and Culture.

Since 'Development Education' is still very new to Cypriot schools, we will organise a series of workshops in different schools to engage teachers and to raise awareness.
During the Global Education Week in November, the TAG will organise a structured dialogue workshop on Global Education for teachers from different towns. In addition, a student debate will take place in Nicosia.

Fuor members of teh Cyprus TAG will participate in the project's international workshop in Kaunas/ Lithuania from 19th to 23rd of October. Upon return, the TAG members will meet to re-assess materials and resources that they will have been introduced to during the workshop.

This wiki site has been created by the project team of the ADE-Project ('Accessing Development Education'). It is a forum for TAG members and any other interested teacher, who would like to engage in discussions, share experiences or teaching material and ideas with other teachers across Europe.

On this wiki you can find information about the project, information about teh TAGs and their activities, a calendar of events that might be of interest to you - and of course you can find and share material about Development Education/ Global Education. If you cam across any teaching resources that you particularly liked and that you think can be useful to other teachers as well, we encourage you to upload the resources, or post a description of it, so that teachers in other schools and other countries can share this good example. If you encounter any problems in uploading materials or in using this wiki, please don't hesitate to contact us directly, so that we can assist you.

On this wiki you can craete your own discussion forums - feel free to start a new one, either in English so that everyone can participate, or in your own language for teachers of your own country.

This section is designed as a space for teachers to share resources about Development/ Global Education. We would like to encourage every teacher to share their experience with particular resources, to either upload the resource or to post a description citing the title of the resource and the publisher.
We also encourage all teachers to share their experience using certain teaching/ learning methodologies and how they can or cannot be applied in the different classrooms or lessons.
However, we would like to remind all users not to violate any copyrights when sharing material.

The project is in the process of developing a comprehensive online depository of Development/ Global Education resources. Once this has been completed we will post the link here.

A Teachers Advisory Group (TAG) shall be established in each country and be comprised of 6 teachers, 2 teacher educators, and one member of the Ministry of Education. The TAG will hold regular monthly meetings under the coordination of the ADE project partner country organisation.

The TAG will play a very vital and crucial role in the project. Societal change can only be achieved through developing coordinated strategies involving different stakeholders. The TAG shall bring together teachers, educators of higher education institutes, and representatives of the Ministries of Education and will work closely with NGOs. The composition of the TAG will ensure outreach to schools, pedagogical institutions and the policy making level. It will represent the EU project in the gathering, reassessing and modification of DE curriculum material, building upon members’ expertise in the Irish educational system.

During a period of four months, the TAG’s in each partner country will identify and gather educational material related to DE. Each TAG will identify any material that its members have used, but also additional material accessible through local and international sources. Each partnerwill consult relevant national development organisations to identify further existing DE material. Having collected a wide range of DE material, the country partner organsiation will be responsible to compile the gathered material and, in coordination with the TAG, review, categorise and file it in a database accordingly so as to grant easy future access.

The TAG will monitor the mapping process, review results, and enable discussions and exchanges of experiences among the TAG members. The project aspires through this activity to grasp the wide variety of educational material produced, honouring the important work that has been undertaken to date largely by NGOs.

Having compiled material on a national level, representatives of all national TAGs will come together at a five day workshop in Kaunas (Lithuania), forming the international TAG of the project (ITAG). The objectives of this workshop are to review the compiled material of the four national TAGs, facilitate exchange of experience and best practice in working with the collected material among teachers of the four partner countries, as well as a teacher delegation from Bulgaria; and to create the basis for a European depository of DE educational material. Teachers/educators in working groups will discuss different approaches to include DE in lessons and school curricula, and will exchange best practices with the gathered material. This will allow for a cross-country review of DE material, and the creation of a network among teachers/educators in the five partner countries and expert NGO’s and DEEEP.

The ITAG will be responsible to upload DE material and relevant links and sources to the project online depository.

A series of three local workshops will be organised (total of 6 days) which will bring together the national TAG as well as selected experts. The workshop members will review the DE material collected, modify it where necessary to adapt it to the needs of teachers and the national curricula. NGOs and the TAG will work collaboratively. The reassessed material will be compiled in the national section of the online depository. The partners will also develop a teachers’ manual, giving instructions as to how to use the DE activities.

Engage educators and schools in Development Education activities and equip them with relevant training and materials, thus making them promoters and multipliers of national campaigns that aim to create awareness about Development and about global interdependencies.

This project aims at promoting Development Education within the educational sector across Europe, focusing specifically on Lithuania, Cyprus, Scotland, Ireland and Bulgaria.
This project acknowledges the fact that highly valuable Development Education material has been developed, however it recognises the difficulties of teachers and educators to access the existent material, as well as to apply these resources to their local or national educational context. More specifically, the project addresses the lack of access to, as well as the need for, Development Education material by teachers, educators, youth trainers and other actors across Europe, and especially in those countries that have joined the EU only recently.

The project aims to:

Raise awareness in Cyprus, Lithuania, Scotland, Ireland and Bulgaria about development issues and about the interdependence of EU countries and countries of the developing world;
Engage educators and youth to take action in support of the developing countries;
Build capacity among educators to integrate Development Education in their lesson plans.

The project will be implemented simultaneously in Cyprus, Lithuania, Scotland and Ireland. It will last from January 2008 until June 2010.
Project activities will include:

Creation of Teachers’ Advisory Groups to gather and review existing educational material on development issues and global education;
European Workshop that will bring together the national advisory groups and offer collaboration and exchange of experience among the European participants;
Creation of a European Depository with material recommended by the Teachers’ Advisory Groups;
Modification of existing material according to the local needs;
Trainings and workshops for teachers and educators to acquire skills of how to best implement the Development Education material in their lesson plans, and of how to mobilise action among students in support of the developing countries;
Testing of the material in selected schools;
Final Conference reflecting on Global Education in formal and non-formal education.
